Latest update from Katie BowcuttHi Martha!
I really appreciate all the support I got from you, along with the entire Forest Trail Academy team both athletically and academically. A quick little post-graduation update: Accepted into both California State University- Northridge, and California State University- Fullerton. I plan to attend CSUF in the fall 🙂
As for kiting and surfing; I recently got fourth place in the “King of the North Shore” surf competition.
Now I’m in training for the Dominican National Championships coming up in June; I’m hoping to regain my title! I was national champ in 2012, but haven’t been in the country to compete for it since!
Also, the group of FTA students here in Cabarete seems to be a fast growing group, it’s awesome to know everyone is getting the same flexible school schedule like I did!
Have a great day!

“Forest Trail Academy has been a blessing to me. I compete in the sport of rodeo across many states, and it takes time and dedication to train and condition both myself and my horses. At my old school I spent many wasted hours, and I had to jump through hoops just to be released early on a Friday to travel to a competition. At FTA, I work harder for a reduced amount of time, and if I have a competition during the week I either take school with me, or do extra work throughout the week. My stress level is lower, my horses are in top condition, and I still have straight A’s. Go FTA! “

“The last two years of high school couldn’t be described in one word. Forest Trail Academy is definitely a school that looks for excellence in their students, and endorses rigorous course work. It builds each young person’s confidence and character, and forces each student to look further into the knowledge of the world. As I graduate I will look back on my high school with pride and be grateful for the wonderful teachers that I had the opportunity to work with.I feel that, regardless of the rigorous course work, I have gained a lot from Forest Trail Academy. I express my gratitude to all of my teachers who helped me to understand my lessons. I am proud to be part of the NHS team of FTA. We accomplished many things- despite our size- and definitely made an impact that was felt globally. We are small but mighty and my hope is that FTA will grow considerably, and achieve many great things. “

“FTA was a great alternative option for me so far as high school went. I transferred out during my junior year after having a rough time in public high school. In the end, FTA got me to the same place, with better results – I’m now a freshman in my top choice college, and have been asked to apply to the Honors Program.
Where you are today: Sweet Briar College What you do: I’m currently self-designing a Film major, and minoring in Medieval & Renaissance Studies. I’m also part of the Medieval Society on campus, and I rockclimb very often with the Outdoor Program.

“FTA gave me HOPE. I don’t have the pressures of exams and trying to keep up with the rest of the class. I get to go over the work as many times as I need so I can understand better. I get to learn, and the standard of my lessons is top notch. If I have a problem, once I send a message to my teachers, they get back to me and they try to help me out. The school calls me now and again to speak with me and to find out how I am doing. Thanks FTA” “

FTA has been a blessing to me!! I didn’t fit in at my old school, i had trouble learning in such a disruptive classroom which meant my grades falling, coming to Forest Trail Academy helped so much, i had personal learning at my own pace, the teachers are patient with my struggles and help me through them, and my grades are so high now! I love Forest Trail Academy and can’t wait to graduate here! Thanks for everything FTA!

“Forest Trail Academy is the BEST school ever, the staff is amazing!! I recently graduated from Forest Trail Academy after going there for 2 years. I went to public school until I was a junior in highschool but I couldn’t continue public school because I was always really sick and I missed so much school I couldn’t catch up. I decided to try online school and after searching through different schools, I chose FTA. That was the best decision I ever made. They have lived up to everything their website says. A reason I chose FTA is their support. There is so much help from the teachers and if you have a problem you can just call their office and they will get back to you the same day. The teachers are always available by email, phone, or the chatroom if you have questions about assignments. I got more help from the teachers and staff than I ever did in 10 years of public school. It is a self-paced program so it was good for me because if I was sick for a few days, I knew I didn’t need to do schoolwork and I wasn’t stressed about getting it done afterwards. For anybody interested in trying online school, Forest Trail Academy is the perfect place. I never thought I would say I love school, but I found myself saying that more and more often once I started at Forest Trail Academy!”
College is really great! The teachers are definitely not as helpful as the ones at Forest Trail Academy though! I find myself missing how great the teachers were because the professors at my college are not helpful. ”

Thank you Forest Trail Academy for helping my student excel! Placing my high school freshman in your program was the best choice! He works through the program at his pace and can take the time to really do well in his work. He loves seeing his grades so high and I love seeing his anxiety so low. This is a fantastic program!

“Thank you and she has truly enjoyed her experience with your school. It was a great learning environment and I have to give huge praise to your teaching staff for the personalized attention they gave to her and help when needed.Would like the administrative team to know her physics teacher Ms. Heather Hillesheim wow, what a teacher for such a hard subject, even harder online. She is a gem and truly passionate about her work, spent hours sending emails, loading videos, answering questions. “

” I wanted to take the time to write and properly thank you for being such a truly wonderful teacher. You do so far beyond what is necessary and really amaze me with how much you care.Your classes are well organized and turn difficult concepts into matters readily understood. Your videos help to make things incredibly clear, so we are never uncertain as to the way to solve a problem. You take care to fill your courses with material aimed to help every style of learner. Even without all the incredible additional work, your lessons themselves are incredible.Yet, you still go so far beyond that. Your weekly letters to the whole class and messages checking in when you haven’t heard from one of us in a while never let us doubt that you care about your student’s progression. Any time we do reach out to you for help you are so friendly and patient as you search for ways to help explain concepts in a way that will make sense.
If I hadn’t already seen what an amazing teacher you are I might have been surprised at your more recent messages, but knowing you nothing else could be expected. I have finished my chemistry course, more so with an A in almost all of my assignment. You could certainly write me off as a job well done. Even if I heard nothing more from you, you would still be incredible. But, you do not stop at that. Your letter to me asking about my plans for science next year and explaining the reasons most people seem to either love or hate each of the different classes really helped me to finalize a decision.
Somehow, if all that wasn’t enough. You went even further and offered to try to find and send me videos over the summer to help me with the one concept that I never fully grasped over the year with you and that I plan on working on more before next year. My chemistry course is not done, yet you are still offering to find material for me to go over to help me learn.
In short, your lessons themselves are excellent, but it is the level to which you reach out to your students and help us to excel at both your class and seemingly anything else you see us struggling with and think you might be able to help, is what really makes you exceptional. I am so glad to have you as a teacher and will always appreciate the many amazing things you have done for me and I know for all your students.

I want to thank you (FTA) for making my school years a success. Your comprehension and love for me (as your student) helped me to achieve my dreams today. Although completing certain assignments was a struggle sometimes, I realize today that all of this hard work paid it off. Never can my words express my thankfulness toward the school. The program not only enabled me to boost my knowledge of the world, but also enabled me to learn how to stay focused and dedicated to my studies. I pray that God forever guides the schools so that its success remains and prospers.

Dear Dr. Chung,
Because of Mary’s experience with FTA, she will be applying to college. I will be forever grateful to Ms. Johnson and all the other teachers who have supported Mary in reaching her full potential. Mary has decided to apply as a math major. Before FTA she never wanted to take math again–and I’m so glad you required it of her. She has discovered her passion for math.
As a part of Mary’s Common App, she has listed you as her counselor. Ms. Johnson has agreed to write a letter of recommendation as her teacher, and I’m not sure if you will be asked to write a letter as well (do the schools require a letter from a counselor?). In any case, I am sending in this email an activities resume and a copy of the draft essay Mary is writing for Point Loma Nazarene University where she is applying outside of the Common App since it is her first choice of schools. She highlighted the area for you to see about the difference FTA has made, specifically Ms. Johnson, in her life.
